:: a parishioner adds his two cents on the demise of the Sisters

Recently, The Vicar and friends attended the Sisters of Mercy concert in Leeds and were sorely disappointed. We asked the parish if any members had done the same and particularly how they felt about the lighting. Here's one response:

I got dragged along to the Sisters Of Mercy bash at the Leeds Academy the other night and I can safely say that the lighting was the best thing about it.

Being a Leeds lad I saw them lots of times between 1982 and 1985 and they were always a really good night out though I ditched them really sharpish when a certain Jim Steinman got involved.

The biggest problem with this show was there was no bass player as their stuff is really reliant on bass and the pre-recorded synthesisers were rubbish – as were the two guitarists. Putting one leg on the monitor before attempting the next blistering guitar solo has never been my cup of tea at all.

I always liked the way they lit themselves with enough smoke to render them virtually invisible - just appearing out of the clouds every now and again. I do remember that when Mike Mansfield filmed them at the Royal Albert Hall in 1985 they requested black lighting – proving there was more than a little bit of humour involved in their presentation.

Still got the first bunch of singles which get dusted off and popped on the Dansette every now and then – one of which has performed a lot better over the last 25 years than my pension.

God bless.
