Other stuff...
Parishioner Outta Spaceman has noticed a disturbing trend - singers reading the words from autocue machines! "I expect nothing more from X Factor wannabes but I then watched concert footage of Bruce Springsteen and there it was again. The same monitor style autocue. He was singing songs that any bearded folk singer ought to be able to reel off at the drop of an Arran sweater, yet he needed an aide memoire - for Jacob's Ladder?"
The Vicar writes: we first noticed this phenomenon at a Dolly Parton concert a few years ago where the entire audience turned around and sang off the autocue, which also carried instructions like "eight bars banjo". Have any other parishioners etc etc?
Parishioner Skirky: It occurred to me at Cornbury, during Hayseed Dixie's splendid re-reading of "Duelling Banjos" that actually, it's not. It's a duet between a banjo and an acoustic guitar. And don't get me started on the difference between a ship and a boat, whether they're called 'Dignity' or not. Next you'll be telling me that if you squeeze a lemon the juice doesn't necessarily run down your leg. Pop stars and their literal innaccuracies. Hrumpph.
The Vicar writes: Anyone for a thread called, in Homer Simpson's words, "they lied to us in song! I hate it when they do that!"? Parishioner George Laxman: The death of Syd Barrett set me to thinking how many other rock legends could be said to have actually retired, whether through ill-health, disillusionment or an attack of good sense. Could any parishioner etc etc?
That's all we've got time for right now but keep your correspondence coming.
